I woke this morning to a cold, gloomy day. Over my first cup of coffee, I learned that Oscar de la Renta died yesterday.

De la Renta has always been one of my dream designers, one whose work was not daring but rather elegant, refined, and impeccably crafted. In my fantasies (the ones in which I summer on my yacht in the Mediterranean) I wear de la Renta. Take a moment to read Go Fug Yourself’s retrospective, where two of my favorite internet writers set aside the snark for sincere admiration. In de la Renta we had a designer of extraordinary vision and elegance, one who inhabited a unique place in contemporary fashion and left an indelible body of work.
