A poem for the new year

“…keeping beat to the song, see how

my boots are scuffed, tooth-marked, worn-soled.”

Brought to my attention by the superlative Jessica Kinnison, Jimmy Santiago Baca’s “It would be neat if with the New Year” is a starkly honest and wry look at turning into a new/old beginning. I, for one, am happy to be looking to the future today.
